Popping Up…Surfing For Beginners
One of my greatest hurdles is the pop-up, popping up for the new surfers reading this blog is when you go from laying on your surfboard to being on your feet surfing a wave. This transition requires an amount of flexibility and a lot of technique to master popping up quickly and smoothly onto a wave. For me personally, I can ride a wave no problem but the pop-up I am re-learning after not consistently surfing through motherhood and building confidence after a setback a few years ago. I feel women surf differently than men, our weight distribution is different and strength due to naturally less muscle mass has to…

The immune system & how it works…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMW_S2GS6eI&list=PLye0kjhtPMdNZSfA_vOjldG5KpnLf7Sig&index=6 Understanding the immune system is key to understanding how our bodies have the ancient innate ability to fight a virus that we come into contact with. Dr Bruce Lipton received a B.A. in biology from C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in 1966 and a PhD in developmental biology from the University of Virginia in 1971. He changed the belief about biology by discovering that all cells begin as the same cell, but the environment changes the purpose and function of the cell. Bruce Lipton is a world leader in Epigenetics; what is epigenetics, you may ask? Epigenetics is the study of how your behaviors and environment can cause changes that affect the…

Cleanse your space with the ancient ritual of sage smudging.
Using sage to cleanse a space, object or person has been done for thousands of years. Sage smudging is when sage is dried and rolled into a bundle, it is then lit with matches or a lighter. The burning sage is smudged out to create smoke which is then used to remove negative unwanted energy from the space, object, or person. Sage smudging dates all the way back to ancient Egyptians and Romans where it was used in healing processes such as to treat digestive issues, sore throats, and memory issues. Many indigenous cultures have used sage such as the Native Americans who burned sage for centuries as part of…

Surf Kit
With spring now here and the odd warmer day it is time to dust off the board, give it a re-wax, find the togs (swimsuit), wetsuit and start making up your surf kit for the warmer days a head. I love being organized because for me personally, time is limited so having my surf kit right there gets me in the water quicker. My surfing technique I call scurfing, surfing under water but I figure least I am out there enjoying the waves, sea and sun. So don’t let yourself hold you back because everyone began somewhere and my somewhere was 15 years or more ago! and I am…

On a winters night, make aromatic red lentil dhal.
With this wild Queens Birthday winter weekend upon us, it’s a great time to embrace the cold, the wet and the darker evenings with lighting the fire (we have a fake one, flick a switch and you are done, not quite the same though), snuggling under a wool blanket, putting on the slippers and getting out the winter recipes. One recipe which is my go-to because it is so quick, easy and nutrient-dense is my Mangawhai Wellbeing Aromatic Red Lentil Dhal. This recipe you can make your own, place in baby spinach, bump it up with broccoli and cauliflower, garnish it with coriander, serve with mango chutney and/or plain yoghurt,…

Love & Trust
Babies are born with the knowledge of knowing that they are completely lovable and trusting. A baby loves attention & toddlers if you tell them ‘you are so beautiful’ they never say ‘no I am ugly’ they accept that you are telling them the truth that they are beautiful. So this feeling of unlovable or lack of trusting comes from experiences and generally someone else transferring their own experiences and energy onto you. Energy can’t be destroyed, only transferred. For example, if a husband was to say to his wife, “I don’t know why you bother getting dressed up.” So then, the blueprint pattern set previously in the sub-conscious mind…

Super Moorish Pumpkin & Sunflower Seed Snack
These are super moorish and sooo good for you with pumpkin and sunflower seeds being high in good high-density lipids (HDL) omega-3 fatty acid. These types of lipids (fats) carry fat and cholesterol away from all cells in the body and transport them to the liver for either excretion or to be re-utilised (recycled) therefore preventing cholesterol accumulating in cells which can have a negative impact on the body. High in zinc which is a great protector (think of zinc like a shield) from stress, infections and toxins. A good source of vitamin E which is a fat soluble vitamin that plays a large role in cell signalling so essential…

Change your thoughts, change your reality…
Change your thoughts, change your reality. The thought is powerful, but why? Our thoughts are influenced by perception, and perception is influenced by our upbringing, events throughout life, and the society we live in. From 0-7 years of age, we are in a hypnotic state (scientifically accurate), absorbing the world and creating a virtual reality by programming the subconscious mind. Life after seven years of age often is hinged on this subconscious programming. So focus on POSITIVE THOUGHT. When a negative thought comes into your mind, switch it out straight away with a positive thought. This positive thought can be a random thought such as I am so grateful for living…

Hypnosis, what is it? A basic introduction.
Hypnosis or Trance is an everyday state of being that we go in and out of over 100 times per day. When we are watching T.V for example we go into a state of hypnosis. Hypnosis occurs as our conscious mind takes a back seat and the sub-conscious mind portal opens. In this state of being we are more open to suggestion and can change our blueprint programs that we run sub-consciously each and every day. The blueprint programs are developed from the moment of conception and designed from 0 to 7 years old. As all children at this age are continuously in hypnosis. Events that occur in our life…
